Moventas, one of the world’s leading gear manufacturers, has opened a subsidiary in India. Developing a quality service network in the country is Moventas’ top priority. Local assembly operations could also be in the pipeline.

Moventas India will initially develop its service network to cater to their existing gearbox fleet in the wind and other industrial segments. Moventas is also considering setting up a local assembly operation in the country, depending on customer needs. Moventas Gears India Private Limited, based in Chennai, has appointed Mr. Rajesh Raghavan as the Managing Director to spearhead the Indian operations.

Moventas’ next steps in the area are human resources recruitment and competency development according to its global standards. After this, developing a limited assembly workshop could be the next phase and, if customer need be, eventually ramping up local assembly over time.

“India is a key market for us in the years to come, with growing potential of the wind energy and other industrial segment like minerals, paper and sugar. The key for success in the years to come will be a quality service network, and we are working on this as the top priority in India. We may also look at developing our Indian subsidiary as an assembly for wider global deliveries”, says President & CEO of Moventas, Mr. Mikael Laine.

“India is currently the 5th largest market for the wind industry and among the top 10 countries in the mineral segment; we have a good installed base here. We see a huge potential for service and scope for introduction of new concepts like up tower repairs, remote diagnostics and re-engineering opportunities.” comments Senior Vice President of Moventas’ Service Mr. Olli Valimaki.

Moventas, with expertise and experience of over 120 years in the heavy-duty gear industry, offers power transmission solutions to wind energy, pulp and paper as well as the mining industry.

Moventas’ service portfolio covers the entire product lifecycle from design, manufacture and repairs to spare parts, upgrades and overhaul. Moventas also offers a state-of-the-art condition management system, CMaS, for real-time preventive maintenance of both wind and other industrial gears. 24h technical support and monitoring of critical gears, the creation of data analysis reports, maintenance notifications and specialist recommendations augment the value of Moventas’ services.
