Siemens AG says its new transformerless solar inverters have achieved an effiency of 98 per cent — 2 per cent higher than other inverters.

The three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverters will help solar plant operator boost profits during infeed into a medium-voltage system, Siemens says. In addition, system costs can also be reduced with the option of a voltage window increased from 900 to 1000 volts.

The new Sinvert inverters are suitable for applications in medium and large-scale PV power plants.

Depending on the degree of incoming solar radiation, the necessary inverters are energised or de-energised by a process that increases the efficiency of the PV plant, especially in partial-load operation. Only the required number of inverters is operated subject to light intensity.
