Global Warming Could Reduce California's Hydropower Output

Almost 50% of U.S. Hydro is on West Coast

It seems like there's been a succession of good news and bad news for hydro power in the U.S. lately. First, some bad news about how disappearing glaciers could negatively impact hydro. Then some good news from Steven Chu about how hydro capacity could be almost doubled just by improving the existing dams. Well, today it's back to bad news: According to a study by researchers at the University of California, Davis, the warmer and drier climate that is projected in computer models could reduce output from California's hydroelectric dams between 1,000 and 2,000 feet in elevation by about 20% by 2050.

How can small changes in temperature matter this much? Well, sometimes it doesn't take much to make snow turn into rain, and since snow acts as a buffer (either it stays in the mountains for a while, or it melts relatively slowly), the pattern of production is different than with rain that runs downhill immediately. It can also problematic if there's more rain, but in shorter, more intense bursts. Hydro reservoirs have a limited capacity, and it's better to have water come in over a longer period than all at once.

It also matters if the climate becomes drier and there's just less precipitation (which can happen locally, even if globally there's more precipitation). This isn't just in the future. It's already happening, according to some experts: "California, Oregon and Washington -- the source of nearly 50 percent of hydropower in the United States, according to the Pew Climate Center -- are already experiencing changes in snowfall, snowmelt and runoff consistent with climate change [...] ".

GENTLEMEN Hydropower!

I suggest you the innovative, super sailing, mobile hydropower generation with a double electricity. This plant has an output of thousands of tons, due to pressure of the flow of the river at a super sail area of hundreds or thousands of square meters. It has two electric, one conventional operating at low speed, the second innovation, working on the weight of the installation. For mobile gidroustanovki want to tow it to the desired location and anchored to connect the electrical cables to the consumer and it works automatically as long as desired. The river rises at the same time on several tens of centimeters not more. No dams, installation does not interfere with navigation, and does not spoil the environment of the flora of the river, is absolutely environmentally friendly! For power, not give in to any type of hydra or electric heating equipment used today. By value, is the ideal tool for capital investment, is fully paid back in less than a year of operation. One U.S. Mississippi River provides the use of my plants, the entire northern and southern America energy easy! Call me in Tashkent call 998-71-256-4152 or 998-71-252-7007, and we agree with you mutually beneficial, and address environmental improvements of America, not in words! May God give you reason and sense of self! Babamuratov Marat Akhmedovich, hydraulic engineer, 57 years old, the language spoken Russian. Eldest son of an American.
