Finnish energy company Fortum Oyj (HEL: FUM1V) said today that it has set up trading operations on the Polish electricity market, thus preparing to commission its combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Czestochowa, southern Poland.
The plant, to go on stream in 2010, will use coal and biomass as fuels. It will have a capacity of 65 MW of electricity and 120 MW of heat. All of the produced electricity will be sold to the market, Fortum said.
In 2003, Fortum entered the Polish district heating market. In the past few years, the company has set up its heat business in the country, acquiring several sector companies. Currently, it owns some 50 heat plants in Poland and has district heating networks in over 40 locations. Fortum had heat sales in Poland of 3.6 TWh in 2008.
