DHL proves that quick document delivery can be green with new carbon neutral feature

DHL Express has introduced the GoGreen carbon neutral feature to its DHL Express Envelope shipping option, allowing customers to further reduce the environmental impact of their shipping activities. DHL Express Envelope ensures the door-to-door delivery of urgent non-dutiable shipments weighing up to 300 grams by the end of the next possible business day, in recyclable, environmentally friendly packaging. It is the optimal delivery choice for account customers shipping lightweight documents internationally.

Reduced carbon footprint

With the new feature, customers using DHL Express Envelope will now benefit from a reduced carbon footprint within their supply chain. DHL calculates the CO₂ emissions associated with the handling and transport of every individual shipment, and will offset the carbon impact of these emissions through investments in recognized climate protection projects. The calculation and offsetting process for GoGreen is verified annually based on the ISO14064 standard, by Société Générale de Surveillance, an independent audit company. The enhanced service is available for customers of DHL in 110 countries across all continents.

Measurable target for climate protection

DHL Express is a division of Deutsche Post DHL, the world's largest logistics group. In 2008, with the launch of its GoGreen program, Deutsche Post DHL became the first logistics company to set a measurable target for climate protection when it committed to improve its carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020 against a 2007 baseline. In 2011, one year ahead of plan, the company reached its interim target of a 10% improvement. Having pioneered the concept of carbon neutral transportation of commercial shipments already in 2006, DHL has recorded an increasing number of customers using carbon neutral GoGreen services, with triple-digit volume growth in each of the last 3 years. DHL also offers advanced emission reporting services as a standalone option to its customers.
