HKSAR Government continues to support Eco Expo Asia

Special attention paid to green technologies.

Eco Expo Asia returns to AsiaWorld-Expo from 26 – 29 October 2011 with continuous support from the Environment Bureau, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which is co-organising the fair for the third consecutive year.

Mr Jason Cao, General Manager, Messe Frankfurt Shanghai Co Ltd said: “To have the Environment Bureau as co-organiser of Eco Expo Asia for a third straight year highlights both the significance of the fair as a professional trade platform and the importance government paid to matters concerning environmental protection.”

Uniquely positioned as an effective Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-Government (B2G) as well as Business-to-Consumer (B2C) trade and information exchange platform, the fair attains strong participation from Chinese mainland government authorities. In 2010, Eco Expo Asia featured 5 regional pavilions (Foshan, Guangdong, Jiangmen, Kunming and Shenzhen) from the mainland and received more than 230 mainland government officials.

Reflecting the ongoing quest by companies and governments for technologies and solutions which can help combat the challenges posed by climate change, the theme of Eco Expo Asia this year is ‘Green Tech for a Low-carbon Economy’.

The fair will showcase a wide range of green technologies and solutions that aim to develop a low-carbon economy by reducing the carbon intensity of processes at every stage of the supply chain, from low-carbon energy generation, storage transmission, to end-user efficiency in the scopes of:

• Air Quality
• Energy Efficiency & Energy
• Waste Management & Recycling
• Eco-friendly Products

Green technologies as well as being good for the environment make economic sense. The latest ‘Five Year Plan’ endorsed by the State Council of the Chinese mainland government identified four new strategic industries relating to environmental protection: energy-saving & environmental protection, alternative energy, new materials and alternative fuel cars. The mainland’s environmental protection industry is expected to grow annually by 15 to 20%, with investment over the next five years reaching USD 450.5 billion.

Capitalising on the environmental protection investment opportunities in the Chinese mainland, the upcoming edition of Eco Expo Asia will feature six thematic zones covering:

• E-waste Management (New Zone)

This zone will introduce solutions for the treatment and disposal of waste electrical & electronic equipment (WEEE) 

• New Materials (New Zone)

An impressive array of new energy materials such as PV and thin film solar cell materials, biodegradable and nano materials will be displayed in this zone

• Testing, Inspection & Certification (New Zone)

Services relating to energy consultancy, energy and carbon auditing, together with material testing and certification will be available in this zone

• Green Financing (New Zone)

In this new zone, financial intuitions will be offering advice about green capital assistance and green investment

• Green Building

This returning zone will present solutions from improving indoor air quality, to energy and water saving systems, as well as landscape designs and eco-friendly construction materials

• Green Transportation

A variety of eco-friendly vehicles, charging system technologies and related accessories will be showcased in this returning zone

Eco Expo Asia is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organised by the Environment Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
